ANDREW STUNELL MP APPOINTED TO INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SELECT COMMITTEE

Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell had been appointed this week by Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg to be the Liberal Democrats' new representative on the International Development Select Committee in the House of Commons.

The position, serving alongside Malcolm Bruce MP, the Committee's Liberal Democrat Chairman, sees Andrew return to covering one of his earliest political interests. The new role will see him investigate many diverse issues, from international trade policy, to human rights, and development aid around the world.

Commenting, Andrew said:

"I'm delighted by this appointment. Long before I got into politics I worked on development projects overseas, and it's an exciting prospect to now be taking an active role in investigating what we can do to tackle problems throughout the developing world, and to make sure the money Britain spends is well used.

"Our country's foreign policies have often been a real mess in the past, and not at all ethical.

"I'm looking forward to taking on this new job, and playing some part in putting that right, and tackling injustice both at home and abroad."
