Today Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell launched the UK's first Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Stunell said:

"Carbon Monoxide poisoning, usually the result of poorly maintained boilers, kills around 50 people in Britain every year. Every one of these tragic deaths could be avoided.

"I urge all local residents to make sure their boilers are maintained, and Carbon Monoxide alarms are fitted in their homes."

Lynne Griffiths, President of the CO-Awareness Campaign, whose own children were all poisoned by CO said:

"Knowledge is the key to preventing poisoning. We must no longer remain silent about this silent killer."

CO Awareness is a Cheshire based not-for-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness of the dangers of CO. Mr Stunell has joined their call to the Government to tighten procedures for boiler inspection and to give installers access to CO monitors. ENDS
