STUNELL HAILS HS2 ANNOUNCEMENT AS “HUGE BOOST” FOR GREATER MANCHESTER

Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell has warmly welcomed the announcement that the full High Speed Rail route from London to Manchester is to get the go-ahead.
Commenting today from Westminster he said:
"It will be a huge boost for jobs in Greater Manchester, it will make it easier for freight to get off our motorway network and onto rail, and it will give us the best ever connections with Birmingham and London.
"Taken with the decision last year to electrify the lines to Liverpool and Leeds from Manchester it puts our area at the centre of a first class rail network we can be proud of."
Mr Stunell's comments came after today's Commons statement by the Secretary of State for Transport that she was looking to include Phase 2 of the High Speed line, between Manchester and Birmingham in the legislation for the route later this year.
