Hazel Grove Candidate Andrew Stunell received a boost to his campaign this week when former Stockport MP Lord Tom McNally, who is now Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, visited the area.
Lord McNally was visiting the Borough to speak at the formal candidate adoption meetings for Mr Stunell in Hazel Grove, and Cheadle's Lib Dem candidate Mark Hunter.
Lord McNally addressed local activists and supporters, telling them that this election offered a great opportunity for the Liberal Democrats, and had been thrown "wide open" after Nick Clegg's debate victory on Thursday.
Commenting, Lord McNally said:
"Nick Clegg's performance in the debates has thrown this election wide open. We have a great opportunity to change Britain for the better, and deliver the real improvements that people want to see.
"Stockport have had two very hardworking Lib Dem MPs over the last five years, and local residents already know their value. I hope they continue to support both Mark Hunter and Andrew Stunell on polling day."
Commenting, Andrew Stunell said:
"We've had a great start to our campaign, with more people switching to support us each day - from both Labour and the Conservatives.
"At this election, the choice is clear, it's either a vote for business as usual with the old parties, who got us into our current economic and political mess, or a vote for real change with the Liberal Democrats."
