LOCAL MPs AND CELEBS GET BEHIND NATIONAL VOLUNTEERING DAY

Stockport's Lib Dem MPs Andrew Stunell and Mark Hunter were joined this week in Westminster by pop music mogul Pete Waterman and BBC Apprentice Star Claire Young as they threw their support behind CSV Make a Difference Day.
Make a Difference Day (October 31st) is the UK's biggest day of hands-on volunteering organised by Community Service Volunteers (CSV). Now in its fourteenth year, the campaign is dedicated to creating a wave of small "kindness acts" as a way to bring communities together during an uncertain economic climate.
This week, Mr Stunell and Mr Hunter have pledged their support to help brighten up the local area and to inspire other local projects to sign up.
Commenting, Mark Hunter MP said:
"In the current economic climate, campaigns like this become even more important. Volunteering brings people together, improves our sense of community, and brings a little bit of happiness to all our lives.
"Volunteering is something that everyone, no matter where they live or what they do, can get involved in, and makes a huge difference to our local community."
Andrew Stunell added:
"Even the smallest act of kindness can make a real difference to people's lives, whether it be volunteering at a residential home, or handing out cakes in the street.
"That's why Mark and I have signed up to Make a Difference Day this year, to show our support for the thousands of people already volunteering across Stockport, and to encourage others to go out there and join them."
CSV Ambassador and pop music mogul Pete Waterman said:
"Whatever you feel needs doing, and whatever your background or age, this is the time to act. MPs have a powerful role to play in bringing organisations, local council's and individuals together to make a difference, and I'm delighted that Mark and Andrew have thrown their support behind our campaign".
CSV supporter and BBC Apprentice Star Claire Young said:
"My motto in business is "just do it", but it applies to everything else I do in life. I like to see things get done, instead of waffling on, which is why I've got involved with "Make a Difference".
"With so much financial uncertainty flying around, we need each other more than ever. That's why I'm encouraging everyone to go out and volunteer. Don't talk about it - just do it!"
