Commenting on yesterday's climb-down by the government over plans to exempt MPs from Freedom of Information legislation, Local MP Andrew Stunell said:
"I'm delighted the Government has backed down. There was quite rightly outrage at the idea of going back on the plan to let the public see how we spend their money.
"Gordon Brown was put up to it by an axis of evil - a former Tory Chief Whip, and a group of Labour backwoodsmen who prefer secrecy to openness. The U-turn from the Prime Minister is the first step on the way to commonsense about an issue that has been getting in the way of tackling the real problems facing the country of jobs and the economy.
"The public want their MPs to be open, honest, and accountable to the people who pay their wages."
