Commenting on new figures which show that the number of homes in Greater Manchester being repossessed is up 27%, local MP, Andrew Stunell, said:
"These figures show that the credit crunch is affecting local people, forcing them right to the brink.
"With over 7,000 people already on council house waiting lists, the rise in the numbers of residents losing their homes will only add to the housing crisis.
"As banks become more aggressive in their behaviour, moving more and more quickly to repossess homes, the Government must do more to help people struggling to make ends meet.
"Gordon Brown promised to make housing a priority in his Government. Now is the time for Labour to bail out local people, not banks."
