The horrors of the Holocaust must never be allowed to be repeated, according to Andrew Stunell MP. The Hazel Grove MP was speaking on his return from a visit with a group of young people drawn from across the North West to the notorious Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz.
The visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp is part of the 'Lessons from Auschwitz' project run by the Holocaust Educational Trust for students from across the country to explore the universal lessons of the Holocaust.
Speaking about the trip Andrew Stunell commented
"The Trust's 'Lessons from Auschwitz' project is based on the idea that "hearing is not like seeing". They arrange these visits so that the new generation of young people can see and really understand what happened.
"It was certainly one of the most sobering and sombre days in my life. To visit the extermination camp is a lesson in the horrors of the past we must never forget or allow to happen again.
"By taking the next generation to visit the site and learn about the harrowing crimes that took place there, the Holocaust Educational Trust is showing what can happen to any society when it turns against certain groups simply because they are different. These are lessons for us all to remember."
