Yesterday in Parliament, Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell met the Minister for Rail to voice local resident concerns about plans to reduce direct trains from Stockport to the South Coast and West Country, and cut direct trains to Scotland.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Stunell said:
"I am alarmed by the Rail Minister's plans for Stockport.
"The government's plans will make trips to the South Coast and West Country more difficult for people in Stockport. All direct services between Stockport and Scotland will be cut and replaced by slower trains from Manchester.
"Tom Harris, the Rail Minister admitted to me that his plans will mean more people will have to make more changes when travelling on trains.
"The government is making rail travel harder and less attractive for local residents at a time when it should be encouraging people to switch from cars and planes to less polluting trains." ENDS
