Stunell attempts to juggle 'three planet' lifestyle

November 7, 2006 4:59 PM

Andrew Stunell Mp juggling 3 planet balls at the WWF receptionThis week, local MP Andrew Stunell took on WWF's challenge of attempting to juggle three planets to highlight how everyone in the UK is using more than their fair share of natural resources, and emitting more CO2 than the planet can absorb.

Speaking at the event, Hazel Grove MP Mr Stunell said:

"If everyone in the world lived as we do in Stockport, we would need three planets to support us.

"There is so much we can do in our everyday lives to reduce our impact on the environment. Simple steps like cutting down on using our cars for short journeys and switching our televisions off from standby can help make all the difference."

A recent report by WWF has shown that the world's natural ecosystems are being degraded at a rate unprecedented in human history. The Living Planet Report 2006 showed that we were using the earth's resources 25 per cent faster than they can be renewed.

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
