Today in Westminster, Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell joined forces with the charity, Homeless Link in a new campaign to end homelessness in Britain.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr Stunell said:
"I am delighted to launch this vital campaign. It is a scandal that every year thousands of individuals and families fall through the safety net and end up out in the cold."
The Homeless Link campaign aims to have all 'rough sleepers' indoors by the time of the Olympics in 2012, and the "hidden homeless" all in suitable accommodation by 2022.
Mr Stunell told the audience:
"Record numbers of homeless families are now trapped in unsuitable and insecure temporary accommodation awaiting a permanent home and this can have a devastating affect on children's schooling and the family's wellbeing.
"Ending homelessness is an investment in our future and I am urging the government to pick up the Olympic Challenge, and end rough sleeping by 2012."
