Stunell celebrates Real Nappy Week

April 25, 2006 11:27 AM

This week, local MP, Andrew Stunell joins more than 147 other MPs, MEPs, Welsh AMs and MSPs to celebrate the 10th anniversary Real Nappy Week. Commenting on the week, Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell said:

"I am very glad to be supporting this worthwhile campaign aimed at switching away from so called disposables to real nappies. Real nappies save money and thousands of tons of waste and it's great to see how many styles and options are now available to parents.

"Many people are concerned about the amount of nappy waste they see going through their bin. Nearly 8 million nappies are thrown away every day in the UK, which is around 40,000 in Stockport alone."

Fashion shows, 'nappuccino' coffee mornings and hundreds of other events across the UK and abroad will reveal how far real nappies have come in the last decade. No longer just an eco and economic option, real nappies are now a fashionable lifestyle choice.

Biba Hartigan of Women's Environmental Network, which is co-ordinating the week, said,

"There are nappies to suit all tastes: bright and funky Day-Glo, leopardskin and tie-dye prints, classic whites and pastels in fluffy fleece, silky-soft bamboo or organic hemp fabrics, and a choice of snug-fitted styles." ENDS

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
