Today in Westminster, local MP, Andrew Stunell made a plea to the Transport Minister to guarantee funding for the expansion of the Metrolink to Manchester Airport and Stockport.
Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell asked the Transport Minister:
"Can he confirm that he and his ministerial colleagues will work closely with local government to secure the Metrolink line to Manchester Airport and the extension to Stockport?"
Speaking after the debate, Mr Stunell added:
"The Minister gave no clear answer. The Government has gone cold on tram schemes and has already cancelled funding for schemes in Leeds, Liverpool and Portsmouth. I will continue to fight to stop Manchester Metrolink from being axed as well.
"Expanding the Metrolink will speed the journeys of thousands of people every day. It will get car drivers onto public transport, improving the environment for everyone in Greater Manchester. And once we have the link to Stockport, there will be huge benefits for commuters in our area."
