Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell today stepped up his campaign to protect the long term future of the post office network by attacking Government plans to close the Post Office Card Account after 2010.
Mr Stunell said:
"The Government consistently undervalues the worth of post offices to communities across Stockport. They are central to community life.
"Closing the Post Office Card Account will make it even harder for small post offices to remain open. We've already lost seven Post Offices in my own constituency in the last 5 years."
Mr Stunell has collected a petition opposing any further local Post Office closures. Mr Stunell added:
"The response to my petition opposing any further local Post Office closures has been tremendous. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the campaign.
Mr Stunell will present the petition to Labour Ministers in London in the coming weeks.
