Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell has attacked the Government this week for short changing young people in Stockport, following a Whitehall announcement that Manchester will receive hundreds of thousands of pounds more than Stockport in Youth Fund allocations.
Local MP, Andrew Stunell said:
"Manchester has a population of one and a half times the size of Manchester, yet it will receive more than double Stockport's Youth Fund money.
"It is outrageous that Stockport's students and parents are being short changed once again.
"The Government's unfair funding formula already means that young people in Stockport receive around £1000 less on their schooling each year than Manchester pupils.
"It is time for the Government to start giving young people in Stockport the equal funding and support that they deserve." ENDS
Notes to Editors:
Stockport local authority has a population of 284,528 people and will receive a Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund for 2006-8 allocation of £596,861.
Manchester local authority has a population of 437,000 people and will receive a Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund for 2006-8 allocation of £1,285,781.
