Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell has called on the Government to save many of Britain's safe herbal remedies from being wiped from the shelves of health food stores.
Speaking out for herbal remedies, Andrew Stunell MP said:
"Thousands of people in Stockport prefer to use herbal products to help minor ailments rather than chemical medications. Herbal remedies have been safely used for hundreds of years.
"We already have good regulations in place to control the safety and purity of herbal products. This new law may be needed in other European countries which don't have the same high standards, but here it risks harming small businesses which supply many of the specialist herbal remedies that millions of people rely on."
Mr Stunell's pleas have earned the thanks of local people who use herbal products.
Sue Croft, the Director of Consumers for Health Choice, which has over 260,000 members said:
"We are grateful to Andrew Stunell MP for backing this Parliamentary motion. Hopefully their actions will encourage Ministers to find a solution that will maintain consumer choice without compromising safety." ENDS
