Andrew promoting renewable energy
Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell has pledged to take up residents' concerns about climate change in Westminster after scientists announced that 2005 was the warmest year in the Northern Hemisphere since records began. Mr Stunell plans to help stop climate change by pushing a Climate Change Bill through Parliament.
Commenting, Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell MP said:
"Dozens of local people have been in touch with me about climate change. We are all worried that carbon dioxide emissions have risen in Britain since 1997, despite Government plans to stop them. That means more flooding, storms and droughts across the world.
"I am supporting the Climate Change Bill as it requires the Government to tackle the problem by making a three per cent cut in emissions every year. It is essential for us to stop climate change - the Liberal Democrats have long argued for real action."
Martyn Williams, from Friends of the Earth thanked Mr Stunell for his support for the campaign, saying:
"We welcome Mr Stunell's support for this campaign to tackle climate change. The hard fact is our Government isn't doing enough about climate change - things are getting worse, not better.
"We need more energy efficient homes, appliances, transport systems, schools and hospitals. We need more alternative sources of energy. But for all of these we need the Government to make it a priority to develop, encourage and help these technologies become affordable." ENDS
