This week Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell spoke out about Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority's handling of consultations on the provision of maternity care in Stockport.
Responding to Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority's public apology for "an appalling misunderstanding" by a spokesman who said they would not take petitions, Andrew Stunell MP said:
"I am pleased that commonsense with the health chiefs has prevailed.
"Petitions are an important and accessible way for busy people to make their opinions known. To label petitions as ineffectual is an insult to people who have signed them and who want to make a difference to their local area."
Mr Stunell met health chiefs in Westminster this week to discuss the Health Authorities plans in detail. Commenting on the meeting, Mr Stunell said:
"I was delighted to get assurances about the long term future of the maternity unit at Stepping Hill Hospital.
"I am now pushing for an enhanced range of facilities in the Stepping Hill Maternity Unit, which will be needed as the department starts to provide for a wider area over the next few years."
