Stunell urges carers to check their rights

December 1, 2005 10:39 AM

As Carers Rights Day approaches this Friday, local MP, Andrew Stunell has called on all of Stockport's 30,000 carers to make sure they are claiming all the benefits and services that they are entitled to.

Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell said:

"It is vital that people who look after a sick or disabled relative receive all the benefits and services that they are entitled to.

"There has been worrying research showing that many carers live in poverty and do not have the support they need and deserve.

"Carers need support. They save Stockport health services £285 million - without them the NHS would collapse.

"You can learn more at the Carers' Information Day at The Meadows, Owens Farm Drive, Offerton on the 2nd December, 11-4, by calling the freephone hotline on 0808 8087777, or by getting in touch with my office."

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
