Tomorrow, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable and local MP, Andrew Stunell will visit Warren Wood Primary School in Offerton to meet the Head Teacher, school governors and local councillors to expose the £44 million gap in school funding that pupils in Stockport suffer compared to neighbouring Manchester.
Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable said:
"The Government's education funding formula penalises areas like Stockport and that hits young people in particular.
"It is scandalous that young people of Stockport have £44,706,600 less Government grant given towards their education per year than their peers just down the road in Manchester.
Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell added:
"I am delighted that our Shadow Chancellor has come to Stockport to expose this grossly unfair situation. Stockport students and parents have been short changed for too long.
"One thing is for sure. Our Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable is ready to do what Gordon Brown won't for young people in Stockport - to find the money to pay for their education." ENDS
