Andrew Stunell MP joins 'What about the victims?' campaign

November 2, 2005 12:01 PM

Today, local MP, Andrew Stunell added his voice to calls for adequate compensation payments to be made families and victims devastated by the July 7th London terrorist attacks.

Andrew Stunell MP said:

"The compensation given to victims of the terrorist bomb attacks of July 7th has been woefully inadequate. Victims and their families need the payments for home adaptations, specialist treatments and to help the victims to get their lives back on track.

"It is a disgrace that a young woman who lost both her legs in the Aldgate tube blast has been offered just £55,000 per limb when her bills are running into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

"The Liberal Democrats have long been calling for the Government to speed up payments to individuals and families affected by the bombings. The system is currently clogged with bureaucracy - literally adding insult to injury.

"I am calling for the Government to give victims of terror equivalent payments to those received by victims in civil cases, to speed up payments and to give long term security to those who need it.

"The Government need to do much much more." ENDS
