Stunell warns young people of text message scam

September 21, 2005 5:17 PM

Mobile phoneFollowing complaints from a local resident that his daughter was being plagued by text messages from companies that charged her to receive them, Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell is getting in touch with schools in the area to warn young people of the risks of some premium rate mobile phone services.

Andrew Stunell MP said:

"Some companies do not make it clear in their adverts that they will continue to send premium rate text messages to a consumer, charging them to receive each message.

"I have just met top advisors from the mobile phone regulators about the issue and will be getting in touch with secondary schools in the area to warn people of the risks of signing up to these premium rate services."

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
