PROVISION OF SMOKE ALARMS IN RENTED PROPERTIES
That this House notes with regret the recent tragic death of three young children in a house fire in Rochdale, Greater Manchester and is saddened that although a smoke alarm was fitted, fire officers could find no battery; therefore calls on the Government to make it compulsory for all landlords to fit and regularly check smoke alarms in all their properties; and congratulates the Manchester Evening News in conjunction with the Greater Manchester Fire Service for launching a campaign to ensure that the 200,000 properties in Greater Manchester which currently do not have smoke alarms have one fitted.
