Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell has attacked plans to close Marple Jobcentre at the end of July and replace it with a call centre based in Marple library.
Andrew Stunell MP said:
"The plans to cut back help for job hunters at Marple Jobcentre leaving them to use library computer terminals and a telephone are unacceptable. It will leave those seeking work or training stranded.
"The Marple Jobcentre is an essential service offering personalised advice and guidance on jobs, training opportunities, benefit claims and form filling to many people in Marple and the surrounding area. This will affect 30,000 people in our local area.
"There is no substitute for personalised support when job hunting. I want to see the Jobcentre Plus committing to providing a face to face advisory service 5 days a week as soon as possible."
