"Bring back Conductors on Buses" says Local MP

June 9, 2005 3:12 PM

Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell is backing a Parliamentary motion to improve local bus services and re-introduce conductors in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour on buses.

Andrew Stunell MP said:

"Local people need a quality and reliable bus service. More regulations, like those in place on London buses, would ensure this happens at a fair price.

Anti social behaviour on buses in completely unacceptable. 15% of all windows in Greater Manchester bus shelters have to be replaced each year. Reintroducing bus conductors on some routes would make journeys a lot more comfortable for passengers."

Mr Stunell also wants to see more evening services provided to residential areas in the town which are ruled out under present laws. Mr Stunell added:

"If we had London bus rules, we'd get more services, and be safer when we used them."
