Plans to close Offerton Shopping Precinct and redevelop the site into 42 flats have been opposed by Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell.
Mr Stunell said:
"Offerton Precinct undoubtedly needs a revamp, but its shops are important to the local community.
"Closure would mean that residents will have no local chemist or shop where they can buy groceries. Many worried Offerton residents have contacted me about these proposals. This would be a devastating blow to the community."
Mr Stunell added:
"Plans to redevelop the site with a mixture of shops and low cost flats would help meet the housing need, and preserve an important community asset."
