MP urges women to screen for cancer

October 10, 2004 12:00 AM

Local MP, Andrew Stunell, is joining forces with Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK's leading breast cancer charity, to highlight the need for all women aged 50 and over in Stockport to make it to their breast-screening appointments.

Mr Stunell said:

"People simply don't realise how much energy it takes to leave their TV or PC on standby. The truth is that such appliances will use almost as much energy in this state as when they are in full use.

"People are unwittingly throwing money away and damaging the environment in the process. With energy bills on the increase, it's just common sense to turn off."

Stunell is backing moves encouraging other MPs to join him in switching off any electrical appliances not in use between 2-3pm on Friday 29th October.

Andrew Stunell added:

"I really hope that as many people as possible in Stockport take part in the Big Turn Off. If we can get used to thinking about the way we use, and often waste, energy, we can start making real progress towards tackling climate change - and save on fuel bills at the same time."

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
