Local MP, Andrew Stunell is warning people not to be duped by a shady new sweepstake lottery scam making its way to local letter boxes.
Andrew Stunell said:
"This is a callous scam by a people who call themselves the El Gordo Sweepstake Lottery Company. They are promising hundreds of thousands of pounds as part of a lottery draw. In exchange they want your bank details, a signature and some money in order to claim your 'reward'.
"Do not respond to any part of their request under any circumstances. It's a complete rip-off that leaves you wide open to all sorts of fraud.
"I was alerted to this callous scam by a constituent who didn't part with cash, but did part with bank her details and a signature.
"Sadly, scams like this are world wide and multiple and the authorities are far behind these rogues."
Andrew Stunell is urging all Stockport resident to be diligent and send any letters they receive offering money for nothing to Stockport Trading Standards. ENDS
