Local MP, Andrew Stunell today backed a bill to stop the exploitation of visually impaired consumers. The Braille Identity Card Bill will require organisations that provide employees with ID cards to include Braille information on their cards.
Andrew Stunell said:
"Adding Braille to ID cards will protect vulnerable consumers from unscrupulous doorstep callers. It is a cheap and easy step to improve protection for Braille readers.
"I'm urging all organisations in Stockport that issue ID cards to their employees to take this simple step to protect a vulnerable group."
Andrew Stunell has joined forces with Jon Trickett MP, who is introducing the Braille ID Bill in Parliament today.
Andrew Stunell added:
"The Council for Registered Gas Installers (CORGI) has been adding Braille to their ID cards, and they issue about 200 a year in Stockport. It is simple to put in to effect, and I believe it's time other organisations follow where they've led. The visually impaired are entitled to the same level of protection as the rest of us. They have a right to information that allows them to make the safe choices. ENDS
