Local MP, Andrew Stunell has joined forces with a host of British and EU Parliamentarians to petition the United States district court for a fair trial for Guantanamo Bay detainee Salim Hamdan.
Andrew Stunell said:
"Guantanamo Bay contravenes all human rights and it is the perfect propaganda tool to help terrorist organisations gain new recruits. By denying a fair trial to prisoners like Salim Hamden Britain and the US are undermining everything they are trying to achieve."
Mr Stunell has joined forces with Lieutenant Commander Charles Swift, the lawyer defending Salim Hamden, and 271 UK and European Parliamentarians to fight for justice.
Andrew Stunell added:
"Salim Hamden has been imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay for three years and the allegations against him have never been made clear. The longer this injustice persists the more it looks to the world like its one rule for 'them' and another rule for 'us'.
"The allegations against Salim Hamden should be tested in a court. It's just basic justice."
