Today, Local MP Andrew Stunell pledged his support to a growing campaign to end unjust age discrimination against disabled people aged 65 and over.
Andrew Stunell said:
"The rules are if you become ill or disabled under 65 you are entitled to disability allowance but if you become ill or disabled on your 65th birthday you are only entitled to a much less valuable Attendance Allowance.
"2,000 pensioners in Stockport are unfairly affected by this rule. This Government makes older people feel like they make no contribution to society when they should be giving older people the benefits they need to remain active in the community.
"I'm delighted to support this campaign because I believe that help should be given on the basis of need not on the basis of age."
