Local MP Andrew Stunell challenged Health Minister Stephen Ladyman in Parliament yesterday over the collapse of care home places for the elderly and disabled people in Stockport.
Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell said:
"In the last year, 2,100 care home places have been cut in the North-West, and councils haven't been given adequate funding to pay a fair price for more beds.
"This is leading to more bed-blocking and less choice for vulnerable patients in Stockport."
Andrew Stunell attacked the Government's complacency over the issue and urged the minister to give adequate support to Local Authorities battling under the constraints of a tight budget.
Andrew Stunell added:
"The shortage of care home places is devastating for many vulnerable people in Stockport who simply do not have adequate support mechanisms. The Government must start taking the needs of elderly and disabled people much more seriously."
