Local MP Andrew Stunell is backing plans to launch a safe and secure school bus scheme throughout Greater Manchester following the success of a pilot scheme in Stockport. Werneth School in Mr Stunell's Hazel Grove constituency has been using the "Yellow Bus" scheme successfully this year.
Andrew Stunell said:
"A high quality, safe and reliable school bus service is just what's needed to take the pressure off parents rushing to get to work, and it helps reduce traffic congestion for us all.
"These new single decker yellow buses are a vast improvement on the old double decker buses which were characterised by crowding and fighting. Now parents can send their children off to school by public transport without fearing for their safety"
According to the Greater Manchester Transport Authority early results show that the 6 new yellow buses in Stockport and Wigan have led to a noticeable improvement in safety and security. Now 6 experimental projects are in place to deliver yellow buses across Greater Manchester.
Mr Stunell says "The scheme provides a double bonus as it's also cheaper to run than the double decker buses." END
