Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell is urging the police not to press charges against TV journalist Mark Daly, whose filmed expose of racist police cadets has led to the resignation of 4 Greater Manchester Police officers. Mr Daly was serving at Hazel Grove police station when he was arrested after a tip off.
Andrew Stunell MP said:
"The sooner these charges are dropped the sooner the Manchester Police Authority's commitment to eradicating racism in the force can be taken seriously. Instead of trying pin charges on Mr Daly the police need to work on rooting out racism.
"It's outrageous that a man who should be thanked for exposing the nastier minority in our police force could instead be punished for doing so."
Mark Daly will answer bail next month on allegations that he obtained salary by deception and damaged a bullet proof vest by hiding a pinhole camera in it. The BBC has said any pay Mr Daly received had been kept in a separate bank account and was to be returned to the force at the end of the investigation. ENDS
