Local MP, Mr Andrew Stunell, is pushing the Department of Health to make a clear and unequivocal announcement about the date of closure for Stockport Community Health Council.
Criticising the Government's constantly shifting time scale, Mr Stunell said:
"Not only have staff been living with uncertainty about their future for over two years, they've now been told, at a moments notice that the date for closure has been pushed back, yet again, by three months."
In anticipation of a September closure, staff had wound down 30 years of work by archiving files, shredding sensitive documents and returning office equipment to suppliers. Key members of staff had also handed in their resignation.
Andrew Stunell said:
"These two years of uncertainty have led to a massive scaling down of patient complaint work and advocacy services. The CHC simply hasn't been able to retain the staff to take up and follow through complaints because they know that their job could be axed at any moment.
Andrew Stunell is calling on the Government to make consistent and sensitive treatment of dedicated CHC staff a higher priority.
