Stunell warns against international payout scam

Local MP Andrew Stunell has teamed up with Trading Standards to alert the public of a new international scam coming through the letter boxes of Stockport residents.

Mr Stunell said, "The worst thing about this scam is that it claims to guarantee you a Government payout which simply doesn't exist. Unsuspecting people are being duped into giving their credit card details because they think that this card is somehow official."

The mailing is dressed up to look like an official document, offering a cash refund provided credit card details are sent back. "Of course, it is a complete rip-off," says Mr Stunell.

Trading Standards' investigations show that the scam is not based in England or even the EU, limiting the legal action that can be taken.

Andrew Stunell is warning members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious cards to his office or Stockport Trading Standards.
