Local MP Andrew Stunell is applauding the hard work of the Stockport Community Health Council, now being abolished after 25 years of dedicated service to the community.
Mr Stunell said "The CHC and its staff have done an excellent job over the years sticking up for patients. It's important that the skills and expertise they've built up are not thrown away by the new system"
The Community Health Council is an independent body that has been very successful at representing patients at a local level, taking up their complaints and fighting their corner.
Commenting on their abolition, Andrew Stunell said, "I'm not convinced that these changes won't result in a more fragmented service and less power to the patient. Before the Government rushes through these plans they must make sure mechanisms are in place to listen to the voice of the patients." ENDS
