Turn Up The Heat On Energy Tricksters

October 17, 2002 12:00 AM

MP for Hazel Grove Andrew Stunell has teamed up with Energy Watch, the gas and electricity consumer watchdog in the Stop Now campaign to tackle energy cowboys after local residents complained to Mr Stunell about being transferred to other electricity providers against their will.

The rogue sales employees have conned consumers by forging signatures, intimidating vulnerable people and falsely claiming contracts were agreed on the telephone.

Andrew Stunell MP said:

"There have been a small minority of companies and sales representatives who cheat and cut corners. I am delighted to see strong action taken, and I want anyone who thinks they have been ripped off to report it immediately"

"The Stop Now campaign aims to stop these tactics. Energy companies need to stop apologising and start acting. We are working hard to ensure OFGEM, the regulator, regulates against these problems sooner rather than later."

If you are a resident of the Hazel Grove constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
