New Year Greetings from Andrew Stunell MP

A happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year to all readers. I do hope you have a real opportunity to sit back and take things easy for a few days with friends and family. It is a time when we can all take stock after the hurly-burly of 2003, and look forward and plan for 2004.

The past year has been a reminder that issues of war and peace, of right and wrong, still matter. But it can be the smaller things that strike a chord when we look back - the new friend we made, the job well done, or the unexpected treat.

As you finish off the cake and jelly, do spare a thought for those like hospital staff and the police who keep going all year round on our behalf. And of course there are many people here and around the world for whom the holiday break brings no change or joy. If you doubt it, call at Wellspring in town, and meet some of those who rely on its volunteers to keep going.

The coming year will have its full share of problems and crises at home and abroad. It is my privilege as one of Stockport's MPs to speak up for local people down in Westminster, and put the case for sanity and fair play. I have no doubt readers will keep my in-tray full for the next 12 months. Meanwhile, put your feet up, and take it easy!
